Work with primary schools involved two types of visit:
Primary schools were invited to bring their pupils to a Science laboratory (G8) at Birkdale High School. The primary school pupils then carried out a series of analytical tests (microscope analysis of fibres, flame tests, fingerprint identification, handwriting analysis and ink analysis using chromatography) in order to solve a mystery.
Two members of the Science department visited primary schools with pupils and animals from Birkdale High School Animal Club; and delivered interactive sessions on “Adaptations for Survival”. The primary school pupils were able to interact closely with a variety of animal specimens, including a bearded dragon, tree frogs, a corn snake, a royal python, chinchillas, rats, gerbils, a tortoise, stick insects, sticklebacks and giant African land snails.
