The three Creative disciplines of Art, Drama and Music are taught in Foundation and Examination Stages. There are four purpose built studios and one technical area in Art. We are a dedicated and enthusiastic team with excellent subject knowledge and a great passion for our specialist areas. The relationship between staff and students is extremely good.
Art consistently has two/three option groups in the Examination Years, and there is one group each in Music and Drama. AQA specifications are followed across all three disciplines at examination stage. The department enjoys good examination results as a result of excellent teaching and learning.
The curriculum at Foundation stage are the building blocks for students who then choose to opt for our subjects at Examination stage. The Foundation schemes of work are purposely designed to provide the students with a wide variety of skills, techniques and experiences across the three disciplines. Our schemes of work are developed to ensure that all students are taken through step by step instructions to enable them to develop their own work and skills into successful and individual final pieces of work in Art, or pieces for performance in Music and Drama. These performance skills are not only vital aspects of the Music and Drama curriculum, but also help to provide students with essential life skills.
There are additional opportunities for boys to develop their performance skills on a grander scale: either by taking part in our school pantomimes and performance evenings, or showcasing our talents at other public events in the local area.
