Sex and Relationship Education /Personal, Social, Health, and Citizenship Education
The PSHCE curriculum aims to give pupils the knowledge, skills, and attributes they need to keep themselves healthy and safe and to prepare them for life and work in modern Britain. The intention of the lessons is to help pupils thrive as individuals, family members and members of society who can respect themselves and others. We try to ensure that pupils know how to remain physically and mentally well, that they establish healthy relationships with others and that they have the information required to make responsible decisions as young adults, recognising threats to their well being and that of others. Pupils are helped to recognise risky behaviours and act appropriately. They are also shown where to access appropriate help in a range of situations. The scheme of work follows current, mandatory guidelines on Sex and Relationship Education.
Varied lessons will be taught mainly by Form Tutors, with guest specialists being invited into school where appropriate. Pupils will have an opportunity to gain NCFE certification (level 1 or 2) for their work in PSHCE.
