What can I expect in GCSE Physical Education
You will study 3 areas of Physical Education:
- Applied anatomy and physiology, Physical Training
- Socio-cultural influences, Sports psychology, Health, fitness and wellbeing
- Practical activity assessment, Analysing and evaluating performance (AEP)

What makes a good GCSE Physical Education student?
- Strong sporting ability in at least three activity areas (one individual sport, one team sport and one free choice)
- Commitment towards focused independent study and an ability to meet homework deadlines. The majority of lessons will be theory-based in a classroom. A minimum of one hours homework is set every week.
- Very good all-round ability in the core subjects. Science plays a huge part in the new theory components. English is vital as well-developed extended answer writing ability and strong literacy skills are necessary for success in the two examinations. Sound ability in Mathematics is also needed to cope with the vast amounts of data analysis that is present in the new specification.

- Physical factors affecting performance: 1hr written paper – 30% of total GCSE
- Socio-cultural issues and sports psychology: 1hr written paper – 30% of total GCSE
- Performance in physical education: internal assessment – 40% of total GCSE

Where can GCSE Physical Education lead?
A Level Physical Education and/or BTEC National Diploma in Sport – potentially leading to careers in Sports and Leisure Centres, FE Colleges, Secondary Education, Sports Development, Sports Science and Sports Coaching.
