You will study four areas of History:
The History GCSE is designed around the themes of invasion and control, as a result you will study lots of interesting stories about the experiences of people in different countries, continents and times. There will be plenty of material to read, sources to study and interpret and a field visit to the Albert Dock in LIverpool for some local history. You will have to complete a variety of tasks, some requiring a sentence answer, but others requiring an essay.
A good History student needs to be:
History fits in well with almost all combinations of subjects that you might want to do in further education. It is acceptable as a non-vocational qualification for virtually any career or form of further education. Even for science subjects, it is a good qualification to have since it shows that your education has been broadly based. Many universities, for example, prefer pupils who have a wide range of passes at GCSE. History might be about the past but it is a forward thinking subject, as it’s all about learning from the past to improve the future. It includes a large number of highly transferable skills that will be useful in a whole range of jobs. People with History qualifications are amongst the most sought after in the jobs market for this very reason.
