You will study three areas of Geography:

• Living with the Physical Environment: Natural Hazards, Tectonic Hazards, Weather Hazards and Climate Change. Ecosystems, Tropical Rainforests and Hot Deserts. UK Physical Landscapes, Coastal Landscapes in the UK and Glacial Landscapes in the UK. 
• Challenges in the Human Environment: Urban issues and challenges in Lagos and Liverpool. Investigating the economic Landscape of the UK. Contrasting levels of Development at a global scale. Resource management. Global food or energy Management
• Geographical Applications: Students will go on two field trips – one Human and one Physical. Students will be required to write up their fieldwork which will take approximately 10 hours of homework time to complete. The students’ knowledge of their field- work will be assessed in Paper 3 examination. Students’ ability to analyse and interpret pre-released graphs and source data will also be tested in this paper as well as unseen material. These skills will be used throughout the course, but specifically tested in this paper.

• Paper 1 – Living with the Physical Environment: 1hr and 30minutes. 35% of total grade. 
• Paper 2 – Challenges in the Human Environment: 1hr and 30minutes. 35% of total grade. 
• Paper 3 – Geographical Applications: 1hr and 15minutes. 30% of total grade. 

Students will be assessed on their spelling, punctuation, grammar and subject specific terminology. Mathematical and Statistical skills will account for 10% of the total marks awarded. 

A good Geography student needs to:

• be well motivated with high personal expectations
• be able to meet deadlines.
• have a positive attitude to learning and behaviour for learning
• have good literacy skills
• have good mathematical, graphical and statistical skills.

Geography is an enabling subject, as it teaches a wide range of skills that can be transferred into other studies. These include Leisure, Travel and Tourism, Meteorology, Social Service, Business and Finance, Scientific Service, Environmental Management and many, many more. Upon completion of this three year course, students will have the skills and experience to progress onto A-level Geography, Geology and beyond.
